JoSAA 2025 Document Requirements & Verification
Based on the official Joint Seat Allocation process for IITs and NIT+ System for the academic year 2025-26, this guide provides comprehensive information about required documents and verification procedures for admission.
Overview
The Joint Seat Allocation process mandates specific documents for online reporting and subsequent verification. The requirements differ slightly between IITs and the NIT+ System, and additional documents are needed based on candidate category (e.g., PwD, category reservation) or nationality status (OCI/PIO, Foreign National).
Verification procedures are conducted in multiple stages, starting with online verification during the online reporting phase and potentially including physical verification for specific categories or at the admitting institute.
Required Documents
Candidates must have several documents ready for upload during the online reporting process and for physical verification later. The suggested lists are provided in Annexures 93 and 95 of the business rules.
For NIT+ System Admissions
The suggested documents are:
- Class X Mark Sheet/Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or Birth Certificate for Date of Birth
- Class XII Mark Sheet and Certificate (Qualifying Examination)

Additional Requirements
- If original certificates are not in English or Hindi, a certified English/Hindi version/translation is required during document verification
- Verifying officials will also check for specific eligibility conditions related to chosen programs
- Candidates must satisfy the Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination criteria
Verification Procedures
The verification process is multi-staged and critical for seat confirmation.
1. Online Verification during Online Reporting
- After a seat is allocated, the candidate must complete the online reporting steps within the deadline for that round
- These steps include accepting the seat, uploading required documents (if not pre-uploaded), and paying the Seat Acceptance Fee
- Document verification is performed by officials based on the uploaded documents
- If discrepancies are found or additional information is needed, a query will be raised and notified ONLY on the online portal
- Candidates MUST check the portal regularly and respond to queries online by uploading new/modified documents within the stipulated time for the given round
- Failure to respond to queries within the deadline leads to seat cancellation and exclusion from subsequent rounds
- Paying the Seat Acceptance Fee is mandatory for document verification to proceed
- Paying the fee early in the round is advised to leave enough time to respond to potential queries
- Successful verification and meeting eligibility criteria result in provisional seat confirmation
2. Physical Verification for Specific Categories
PwD Candidates
- JEE (Advanced) qualified PwD candidates seeking admission to IITs without a valid UDID card, or if online UDID verification fails, must undergo physical verification at an IIT reporting center
- Similarly, JEE (Main) qualified PwD candidates seeking admission to the NIT+ System without a valid UDID card, or if online UDID verification fails (or if allocated a seat in a program with special restrictions), must undergo physical verification at a NIT+ System verification center
- Candidates must register on the JoSAA portal and select a center, date, and time for physical verification in advance
- This physical verification must be completed by the end of the counseling round in which the candidate is allocated a seat
- Failure to complete this verification results in seat cancellation
Candidates with Less than 40% Disability and Difficulty in Writing
- JEE (Advanced) qualified candidates in this category seeking IIT admission must undergo physical verification at an IIT
- JEE (Main) qualified candidates in this category seeking NIT+ System admission must undergo physical verification at a NIT+ System verification center
- They must complete this verification by the end of the round they are allocated a seat
- Failure leads to seat cancellation
- Misrepresenting disability or difficulty in writing to avail scribe/compensatory time results in exclusion or cancellation of admission
3. Independent Re-verification
- If a candidate is allocated a seat in the NIT+ System in one round and subsequently allocated a seat in an IIT in a later round, their documents and eligibility are verified AGAIN by the IITs
- The candidate must respond to any queries raised by the IITs online within the round's timeline
- Conversely, if a candidate is allocated a seat in an IIT and then gets a seat in the NIT+ System in a later round, their documents and eligibility are verified AGAIN by the NIT+ System
- The candidate must respond to any queries raised online within the timeline
- Failure to respond successfully to queries during re-verification leads to seat cancellation and exclusion from JoSAA
- No additional seat acceptance fee is required for this re-verification
- Re-verification is not needed if the candidate is always allocated a seat within the IIT system or always within the NIT+ System
4. Physical Verification at the Admitting Institute
- After the conclusion of JoSAA (and CSAB Special Rounds for NIT+ System), candidates must report physically at the admitting institute
- At this stage, all certificates will be re-checked by the institute
- For IITs, biometric verification is also conducted against data captured during the exam
- If documents or eligibility fail to meet norms, or if biometric verification fails (for IITs), the admission will be cancelled
- For IITs, candidates whose admission is cancelled at this final stage become ineligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) in subsequent years
Consequences of Invalid Documents or Failed Verification
- Willful forgery or cheating: Leads to withdrawal of the admission offer and debarment from further rounds and JoSAA admissions
- Invalid documents (non-forgery): The category tag may be changed. Depending on the certificate and the seat allocated, the seat may be cancelled and the candidate considered for subsequent rounds under the changed (valid) category (e.g., OPEN)
- Invalid PwD status: Results in the allocated PwD seat being cancelled, and the candidate considered for subsequent rounds under the relevant non-PwD category
- Errors in State Code of Eligibility: Can lead to cancellation if the allocated seat quota (Home State vs. Other State/All India) does not match the corrected eligibility; the candidate is then considered in subsequent rounds based on the correct code
- Failure to complete Online Reporting: Including document upload, fee payment, or responding to queries by the deadline leads to cancellation of the allocated seat and exclusion from subsequent JoSAA rounds
Important Notes
Critical: Candidates must meticulously gather, upload, and verify all required documents, paying close attention to specified formats and validity periods, especially for category and disability certificates. They must also actively check the JoSAA portal for allocation status and respond promptly to any queries raised during online verification.
Timeline Awareness: Failure at any stage of the verification process can lead to seat cancellation and potential exclusion from the entire JoSAA process. Given the complexity of the process and the strict adherence to timelines, candidates should review Annexure 3, the JoSAA 2025 Timeline, to understand the specific deadlines associated with each verification stage for every round of seat allocation.
